- First elected in 2004 in the Thomastown area local elections
- Re-elected to Kilkenny County Council in June 2009 which resulted in one of the most successful local election outcomes for Labour in the whole country - securing 2 out of the 4 seats available in the Thomastown Area along with Councillor Michael O Brien
- Elected Deputy Chairperson of Kilkenny County Council, June 2010
- Contested 2011 General Election for first time, secured over 8,000 1st preference votes
- Elected as the first Kilkenny woman to the Dáil from Carlow/Kilkenny, Feb 2011
- Appointed to Joint Administration Dáil Committee, June 2011
