Addressing the approximately 1,000 attendants at this afternoon's Stop NAMA demonstration the Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore TD said the Government approach to the banks is wrong and that is why the NAMA Bill must be stopped.
"The Labour Party has been consistent in our opposition to the NAMA plan since it was first mooted by Fianna Fail. Our banking system has been brought to its knees by the rampant greed and speculation of our banks and developers.
"Together with Fianna Fail they make up a 'toxic triangle' that has destroyed our economy, sending Ireland into the deepest and maybe even the longest, economic depression of any advanced economy since the Second World War."
Deputy Gilmore went on to say that it was even more shocking that the Green party has been prepared to back up the Fianna Fail plan to bail out the bankers and developers.
"It is now time for the Green Party to decide who they stand with. Do they stand with Fianna Fail and their developer friends or do they stand with the people of Ireland."
Photographs from today's demonstration will be available later on Flickr. Thanks to everyone who supported, attended and passed on details about today's demonstration. Do let us know in the comments section below what you think.
