Government is not addressing the jobs crisis

Posted on February 17, 2010 at 04:52 PM

When it comes to jobs the Government never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity, the Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore TD said today in the Dáil during Leaders' Questions. Eamon was continuing to press the Taoiseach on the failure of the Government to investigate the offer from Ryanair to provide 500 highly skilled jobs at Dublin Airport.

"This is about jobs and the fact that the Government is not addressing the jobs crisis... They have spent 12 years in Government wasting money... That is the reason the country is in the mess it is in. They are incompetent and not capable of getting us out of it.

"The Government parties missed the time. They lost all of last year and they have ended up at the 11th hour with a gun to their heads, flapping around between one hangar and the next because they left it too late.

"It is the Taoiseach and the Government's responsibility to resolve this issue. A total of 200 jobs have been lost and potentially another 300 jobs could be lost. The test for the Taoiseach, to which we will return, is whether he will ensure that 300 jobs will be available at Dublin Airport."

Eamon's full contribution is available on the posted video while you can read the full transcript on the Oireachtas website.
