Ryan Recommends Joint Usage Arrangements for unused open space in Swords

Issued : Wednesday 21 April, 2010

An open space which is located between St. Finian’s Community College, Jugback Crescent and South Banks housing estates in Swords is a matter of concern for local residents. The field, which is owned by County Dublin VEC, and was utilised at one time as a soccer football pitch, is being used as an area for Anti-Social Behaviour and Dumping.

In view of the location of the land, and its proximity to the school and the Council’s public open space on which St. Colmcille’s GFC pitches are located, it would be appropriate that the land would be developed for sporting and recreational purposes. In this regards, I have been in contact with both the County Dublin VEC, and Fingal County Council recommending that an urgent meeting take place to discuss this issue.

I have recommended that the VEC and Fingal County Council arrive at a joint usage arrangement for the field and also for the Council to maintain the grass and clear the litter on a regular basis.

It is important that we take on board the concerns and worries of the local residents, and that this issue be given the priority that it deserves.
