Ryan calls for An Bord Pleanala to “Restore Faith in the planning process” for the people of Balbriggan

Speaking at an Appeal Hearing in the Bracken Court Hotel today Brendan Ryan TD called on An Bord Pleanala to "restore faith in the planning process for the people of Balbriggan". Deputy Ryan made an oral submission at the hearing calling for the decision by Fingal County Council to grant Development comprising the retention of three road links and associated footpath in the Moylaragh Estate, Balbriggan to be overturned.
The crux of the appeal centres on the Moylaragh Road which was originally planned to be a cul de sac but has been operating as a through road towards the Castle Mill shopping area. This road is most unsuitable as a through road and cannot sustain the volume of traffic it currently takes.
Ryan was critical of Fingal County Council stating "I am shocked that Fingal County Council has granted permission for this development to be retained especially as An Bord Pleanala in its decisions in the past regarding this application, recognised the problems that exist and have only granted temporary approval. This application is obviously contrary to good planning otherwise An Bord Pleanala would not have made their previous decision a temporary one."
Ryan continued "The fact remains that Moylaragh Road was never applied for as a through road. I believe that if this application was being made for the first time with this road being proposed as a through road, the application would be refused. The current road is too busy, has been the scene of a number of accidents and essentially cuts off access to the local green area."
Ryan appealed to the Inspector from An Bord Pleanala stating "The Developer and the Local Authority have ignored your wishes and your directions in the past; don't let them do so again."
