  • Former Youth Officer for Dun Laoghaire Constituency of the Labour Party.
  • Carrie Smyth was co-opted onto Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in April 2003 following the death of her father former Councillor Frank Smyth.
  • Re-elected to the Council in the 2004 local elections taking the fourth seat of six and in the 2009 local elections taking the second seat of five.
  • Chairperson of the Strategic Policy Committee on Economic Development and Planning from July 2004 to January 2007.
  • Leas-Cathaoirleach of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council from June 2005 to May 2006.

  • Board member of Loughlinstown Leisure Centre from 2003 to 2009 (when it ceased to exist).
