Car Park for Luas at Cherrywood and/or Brides Glen
Issued : Friday 12 November, 2010
Labour Party Councillor Carrie Smyth welcomes the discussions between the Council and the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) to provide a park and ride facility in the Cherrywood area.
The Luas Cherrywood Green Line opened on the 16th of October with no additional park and ride facilities available for commuters at any of the new stops. Philip Boucher Hayes reported on Radio 1’s Drive Time on Tuesday 19th of October that over 500 drivers were turned away from Cherrywood as there was no park and ride facility available. A huge number of constituents contacted me about the lack of park and ride and disabled parking along the new extended Green Line to Cherrywood. They all had to drive to the nearest park and ride at Sandyford or use alternative transport.”
I welcome the discussions that are taking place between the Council and the RPA to provide a park and ride facility at Cherrywood in the vicinity of Brides Glen and/or Cherrywood stops.
AGENDA ITEM 37
MEETING OF DÚN LAOGHAIRE-RATHDOWN COUNTY COUNCIL
CAR PARK AT BRIDES GLEN OR CHERRYWOOD LUAS STOP
Motion: Councillor C. Smyth
“That the Manager explore the provision of a temporary/permanent car park at
Brides Glen or Cherrywood Luas stop?”
Report:
The Council is not responsible for the provision of park and ride facilities for the LUAS
service. All existing park and ride facilities for the LUAS have been provided by the
Railway Procurement Agency, who have recently been granted planning permission
to construct a 350 space facility at Carrickmines.
The Council is currently in discussions with the R.P.A about car parking in the
Cherrywood area, with a view to facilitating the provision of park and ride in the
vicinity of Brides Glen and/or Cherrywood stops.
