Catherine is a Labour Party Councillor on Cork City Council and represents the North Central Ward.

She has been a member of Cork City Council since 2003, when she was she co-opted to replace her colleague Kathleen Lynch TD and subsequently held the seat at the following local elections in 2004.

Catherine is married to Martin and mother to three grown up children. She works full time as a public representative.

She is currently Chairperson of the Cork City Council’s Road and Transportation Committee and of it’s Environmental Committee.

She is also a member of the City Council’s Housing Committee and of the Docklands Development Board.

Catherine has had a lifelong involvement with politics and has been active in many issues both locally and nationally.

In 1995 she helped to spearhead a nationwide campaign to obtain equality in Social Welfare entitlements for married women. This campaign culminated in the Government paying out over £300 million to 76,000 married women throughout the Country.

In more recent times she was to the forefront of the campaign to bring the Breastcheck screening programme to the Munster area.
