€11 MILLION EURO FOR WATERFORD ROADS-CIARA CONWAY

Issued : Tuesday 31 January, 2012
Areas : Waterford, Ireland, South East, Dungarvan, West Waterford

Labour T.D. for Waterford, Ciara Conway is welcoming funding to the tune of 11,083,584 euro that is being made available for regional and local roads in Waterford City and County.

Over 9 million euro is going towards roads in Waterford County Council  while the City Council is getting over 1.8 million for maintenance and improvements and a further 195 thousand euro is earmarked for projects in Dungarvan.

In Waterford County cash will be spent on upgrading the Dungarvan to Clonmel road, as well as the Riverstown Relief Road and other projects.

A large chunk (€500,000) of the grants for the Waterford City Council will be spent on the Old Kilmeaden Road roundabouts and other improvements.

“A good road network is vital and I welcome this funding for our roads in Waterford. The money will be used for improvements and upgrades. Waterford City and County takes in a very large area, and many people are travelling considerable distances, so the network needs to be maintained.

Good roads are also vital if we’re to attract investment to the region.

This is also good news for tourists and will allow visitors to explore our county from Tallow to Tramore on safe and well-maintained routes.

Hopefully this money can be put to work straight away and people will soon see the benefits”
