Cllr Colette Connolly
Colette is currently Deputy Mayor of Galway City.
Having spent many years both in Dublin and in London, Colette soon became involved in community work and found that while the quality of life in Galway was superior to London, it wasn't perfect.
Her decision to contest the local election wasn't taken lightly. "It was a big decision because being a public figure carries its own pressures.But I went forward because the majority of the representatives were men and there is no point in looking for improvements if you're not prepared to be involved with things like this. Everything is political, really." Colette also contends that a lot of people percieve politics as something that's 'out there' and something they can't get involved in, but according to Colette its very important to express opinions and to speak out for people that need representation.
