Cathaoirleach Cllr Colm Purcell
The longest serving Public Representative in Leixlip, Colm has been a member of Leixlip Town Council since 1988 and was a member of Kildare Co. Council from 1985 to 1999.
A native of Leixlip, Colm works as a Manager in a Community Childcare Facility. Currently Colm is Cathaoirleach of Leixlip Town Council a position he regards as an honour to hold on behalf of all the residents of Leixlip.
Colm was a Founding Member of Leixlip Housing Association where he put his concerns of housing for people into practice and where 28 houses were built under a Co-Operative Housing Scheme at Sli An Chanail at Easton. Colm is also actively involved in Leixlip Credit Union providing assistance for ordinary working families.
The continued development of Leixlip Amenities Centre and the construction of the North Kildare Swimming Pool are among Colm`s priorities as are the upgrading of Leixlip Town Council to Urban Council Status.
The Long Campaign for a Leixlip Garda Station finally proved successful with the opening of the State of the Art Facility on Station Road. The designation of the Station as a District Headquarters has been welcomed by Colm but garda manning levels must be increased to cater for crime levels in our area.
Colm missed out on a Co. Council seat by 166 votes in the 1999 election and 103 votes in the 2004 election. In 2009 thanks to the support of the local community he was elected to return to the Council in 2009 .
