Cllr David Moloney
Welcome to my website
I proudly represent all of the people in the Kilmallock Electoral Area on Limerick County Council.
In September 2011, I was co-opted by the Labour Party to succeed Senator James Heffernan on Limerick County Council. It is a great honour and privilege for me and for my family.
I am actively involved voluntarily in the local area as a member of the Kilfinane Community Council, Kilfinane Pastoral Council and South East Limerick District Forum. Since joining the Council I have been involved in the Social, Cultural and Community Development Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) and the Environment and Emergency Services SPC.
The growth of the Labour party in Limerick has been truly amazing. This success wasn't achieved without inspiring leadership, good communication and sustained effort. I am now ready to play my part within the existing organisation and I relish this opportunity. I intend to work diligently as a local representative for my area and all the people in it. As a representative of the Kilmallock Electoral Area, I will attempt to highlight local issues that are important to the people here in Limerick.
I am 24 years of age and a native of Kilfinane, Co. Limerick. My parents, Pat and Monica, have been a constant source of inspiration and positivity to me. Through their guidance and support I have been encouraged to take up the mantle of political representation for my local area. With me, I bring a youthful, transparent, fresh approach to politics. The Labour Party's policies align with my ideals.
Sporting
My sporting life centres around Hurling. I play with my club Blackrock (consisting of the parishes of Kilfinane and Ardpatrick), the South Emmett’s divisional side (an amalgamation of hurlers from Junior and Intermediate hurling clubs in South Limerick who take part -upon qualification- in the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship), and the Limerick Senior Hurling team.
Over the last two years I was fortunate enough to coach GAA to the two local national schools in my own community, Kilfinane and Ardpatrick. I enjoyed coaching the children and, as my background in Education would suggest, helping them reach their learning potential.
Education
I studied Liberal Arts in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, where I attained my degree. I majored in History and Geography. During my degree I studied modules including Political Geography and Economic Geography as well as Sustainable Geography. Throughout this time, I became more aware of the realities, demands and possibilities of political representation.
More recently I have completed a Masters in Technical Communication and E-Learning from the University of Limerick. I am currently seeking employment in this field.
Why I am interested in politics
Recently, I have watched many friends and people I know leaving the local area and Ireland behind, brought about in great part due to the lack off adequate employment opportunities. As I listened intently to the news on a daily basis, I couldn't help but notice that our political ways seemed to be getting ever more unjust, devaluing the very fabric of the society and culture that many had strived so hard to achieve. Moreover, the outlook for our collective future began to appear ever more bleak.
It would be very easy in present circumstances to be less than optimistic about our country's future and to think that politics are redundant. However, I felt it was time for me to stop talking about a need for change and instead, as President Michael D. Higgins says, actively start contributing to a vision of the change we want. As a young man I remain optimistic about our future and I think that we all must. We must firmly believe that we will again recover our national sovereignty. The future is challenging for each one of us and undoubtedly tough times lay ahead. At a local level I hope to prioritise well and get the balance right.
