"The cause of Labour is the cause of Ireland and the cause of Ireland is the cause of Labour "
Last year I asked you to join with me in our Recruitment Campaign.
This has been an enormous success. The party distributed over 500,000 recruitment leaflets all over the country. You have helped gain hundreds of new members for our party. These new members will be Labour's activists of the future and will contribute to what will hopefully be our best ever General Election.
We are making preparations for the General Elections. Candidates are currently being selected, some in places where Labour has traditionally not contested in a serious way. Our candidates have already been campaigning for many months, and the tempo will only increase from here.
As we face in to these elections we are left with one serious disadvantage. It is a disadvantage only you can help me address. Other parties have stored up large war chests of cash to fight the upcoming elections however; Labour will only succeed in matching their might with the help of people like you.
The people of the US succeeded in rewriting their political landscape by contributing small amounts of money to the Obama campaign, in their millions. Is feider linn freisin!
By contributing €100 you can help us put 2000 leaflets in the hand of one of our candidates. €50 will buy 10 election posters.
Any contribution you can make can help bring about the change that Ireland so badly needs.
I know that for most of you times are tougher and money is tighter but it is at times such as these that your contribution will of most value in ensuring Labour is able to fight and win the upcoming elections. It is only by combining our efforts that we can forge a path to a New Deal for Ireland.
Regards,
Eamon Gilmore TD
Leader of the Labour Party
