Issued : Tuesday 28 June, 2011
Areas : Maynooth/Naas/Celbridge
Deputy Emmet Stagg has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn T.D., that 3 new secondary schools will be built in Naas, Maynooth and Celbridge in the period 2012 to 2017.
The intention to build new secondary schools at Naas and Maynooth had been announced previously but Deputy Stagg stated he was pleased that Celbridge had also been included in the new list of schools. All of the new schools will cater for up to 1,000 pupils.
The schools stated Deputy Stagg are required because of the large increase in numbers that will require secondary education in the coming years which could not be met from existing schools in the area.
In relation to the new school for Maynooth Deputy Stagg questioned the Ministers Office that this was a new school and not just a replacement of the existing excellent Maynooth Post Primary School. Deputy Stagg has been advised that it is indeed a New Secondary School for Maynooth. The Location of same was suppose to be on the Straffan Road side of the Town but Co. Kildare VEC have acquired lands at Mariaville, Maynooth near the Meath border.
In conclusion Deputy Stagg looked forward to progressing these new Schools to deal with the anticipated demand.
