Further €26 Million Allocated to KCC for Completion of Enfield to Edenderry Road Improvement Scheme

Deputy Emmet Stagg has welcomed the announcement today by the  Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar that he has allocated a further €26 Million to Kildare Co,. Council to enable it to complete the Enfield to Edenderry Road Improvement Scheme.

The planning for this Road Upgrade commenced in 2001 stated Deputy Stagg and it is envisaged that the road will be completed by 2014. Over €10 Million has been spent todate on planning and land acquisition bringing the total cost of the road upgrade to €36 Million.

Anybody who travels along this road will know how sub-standard it is stated Deputy Stagg and the upgrading of approximately 12KM will bring the road to a safe standard. In the past 20 years there have been 6 fatalities on the road, 13 serious accidents, 31 minor accidents and 61 material damage accidents.

Existing daily traffic using the road are 4,850 vehicles of which 5% are HGV`s. The improvements will also allow for future anticipated growth in traffic levels.

The route of the upgraded road also allows for the by-passing of the villages of Carbury and Thomastown thus improving safety and the quality of life for residents in these villages.

In conclusion Deputy Stagg looked forward to work commencing on the project in the near future.
