Widows & Carers Assisst With Bank Bailout
Posted on December 08, 2010
the 2011 budget certaintly confirmed the long held view that this F.F. government are totally disconnected from the reality of how people are trying to get by day by day.
cutting those on the minimum wage by 11% while the taoiseach and his crop of ministers take a 4% cut is the classic example of how the most vulnerable in our society are now picking up the tab for the bank bailout.
pumping billions into zombie banks and building societies continues under Fianna Fail rule as they have to help out their friends in the banks who for years were donating to the coffers of Fianna Fail.
Candidate For Next Dail Election
Posted on November 02, 2010
last evening i was along with my colleague Jan O'Sullivan selected by the party members to contest the next general election in Limerick City.
i am contesting the next election because i want to see a labour led government with Eamon Gilmore as the first Labour Taoiseach, and my efforts will be focused on maximising the labour party vote in Limerick City so that we can deliver an historic second labour seat.
with a stong enlarged labour party we will lead this country out of the economic mess created by FF & the Green's, we will through creating and protecting jobs, reform our public services, and make decisions in a fair and equitable manner for the best interests of our country.
When is a City not a City
Posted on October 12, 2010
at yesterday's special city council meeting i asked the city manager to take out advertisements in the local press and radio informing the people of limerick about the serious implications facing us if the Government proceed with a proposal from Denis Brosnan to merge the City and County Councils.
D'ont be fooled by the suggestion that money will be saved they told us that when the Government created the HSE and abolished the 8 regional health boards,.
Limerick was first granted its charter in 1197 by King John and as an ancient City and one of the oldest in the British Isles the people of this great City should not allow for the abolition of the City to be absorbed into a greater so called super authority.
Merger of city & county council will lead to urban versus rural divide
Posted on September 13, 2010
how many times have we heard that the sucess of regions economically, socially and culturally is due a strong vibrant city at the core of the region, just look at dublin with 4 separate councils.
limerick as a city is severly under bounded all statistics produced measuring various social indicators show the city at the bottom of most tables. disjointed local governance has for years stifled the growth of the city, while our rich neighbouring authorities suck all available rates out of the area and into the furtherest parts of the county.

Shannon Airport Key To Regions Economic Survival
Posted on September 08, 2010
I cannot understand how our Government deputies in the mid west have not come together to lobby their party colleagues to address the serious issues now confronting the very survival of shannon airport. we cannot allow this situation to continue to the point werebye the airport will simply become totally unsustainable with less and less flights and passengers using the facility.
My God it is crazy to think that the management of the airport cannot do some sort of deal with the most sucessful airilne in the world that has the potential to deliver thousands of jobs badly needed in our services sector, millions of passengers to visit the mid west and western region.
