Cllr John McGinley
A member of Kildare County Council since 1993, John has been to the forefront in protecting Maynooth from excessive development. Married to Mary with 3 children, John worked as a Technologist in the ESB and was a former Worker Director on the Board of the ESB. John has been working as a Full Time Councillor for the past two years.
Since 2004 John has delivered the following for Maynooth:
- The realignment of Bond Bridge and the provision of the new Meadowbrook Link Road.
- The removal of Heavy Goods Vehicles from Main Street.
- The Children's Playground, Teenage Activity Area and the Fitness Zone for all age groups at The Harbour Field.
- Preventing the Removal of the Trees on Main Street.
- Additional Playing Fields on Moyglare Road for Maynooth G.A.A. and Maynooth Post Primary School.
John is at present working on the following for Maynooth:
- Delivery of the North Kildare Swimming Pool.
- The provision of an Arts/Community Centre at The Geraldine Hall.
- The provision of the Teen Cafe at TESCO.
- The provision of a Scouts Hall at The Harbour Field.
- Urban District Council status for Maynooth.
- The provision of additional parking capacity for commuters and for workers and shoppers in Maynooth.
- The completion of the proposed ring road from Dublin Road to the Straffan Road.
Following the successful prevention of major development near Carton Avenue, and the transfer of 50 Acres of Public Parklands to Kildare Co. Council, John now wants to see a Management Plan put in place for the use of these lands for active and passive public use.
John has an impressive list of achievements in his work as a member of Kildare Co. Council and looks forward to continuing to working for the Community of Maynooth.
