Lar is currently a Councillor on Tullamore Town Council and was Chairperson of Tullamore Town Council on two occasions in 2002/2003 and 2006/2007.
He has actively campaigned, for the following:-
More traffic calming measures to control speeding in housing estates;
Provision of more housing to reduce the housing waiting list
Road ,footpath and back lane improvements ;
More amenities in Tullamore such as The Tullamore Indoor Swimming Pool costing €14m and Tullamore Lloyd Town Park, €2m
