Labour Party Senator for Cork South-West, Senator Michael McCarthy, has called for the Court facilities in Kinsale to be upgraded immediately. If this work is not carried out soon, the District Court may well be withdrawn from the town altogether.
Senator McCarthy said, “The current situation, with people consulting their legal counsel in stairways and car-parks, cannot be allowed to continue. People are entitled to a modicum of privacy and to be treated with respect.
‘Due to the work of Judge McNulty and the Court staff many advances have been made in Kinsale in recent years and waiting lists for cases to be heard have been greatly reduced. It is now time that the State to provide adequate facilities to allow the work of the Court to continue.
‘If conditions deteriorate any further the Court may well be withdrawn from the town, which would have very negative social and economic consequences.’
