Clonakilty Road Needs to be Made Safe
Issued : Wednesday 28 July, 2010
Areas : Dunmanway, Co. Cork
Labour Party Senator, Michael McCarthy, has urged Cork County Council to take immediate action to reduce the risk of accidents on the Clonakilty Road just outside Dunmanway.
Senator McCarthy said, ‘Despite the fact that the County Council erected warning signs at the dangerous bend in the road, just beyond the rugby pitch, accidents have continued to occur. A number of these accidents have happened in recent weeks and it is lucky that someone hasn’t been seriously injured.
‘There is a real fear that a fatality is inevitable here at some stage. I realise that funding is scarce at present but I believe this situation can and should be covered by the Accident Prevention Scheme. I am calling on Cork County Council to address this matter without further delay and before someone is harmed.’
