Cllr Sean O'Grady
A Chairde,
Welcome to my website and many thanks for taking the time to stop and view what I have to say.
I have been afforded the opportunity to represent my people in Killarney over the past thirty four years. During this time, I have never felt constricted by the limitations of the statutory remit handed down by central government.
In addition to the normal every day problems of the people that constantly need my attention, I believe a public representative should be visionary, innovative and have a constant urge to 'Push out that boat' a little bit further. For example,in 1999, I proposed that the council initiate a Drugs Liaison Committee, comprising of statutory and voluntary organisations with an interest in reducing substance abuse in the area, over this time we have been active in many fronts in pursuit of this objective. In particular, we initiated the Kerry Life Education Mobile Ltd. in conjunction with the South Kerry Development Partnership. A mobile classroom was purchased in 2003 to serve the seventy seven primary schools in South Kerry to deliver an age appropriate programme for each class on the subject of healthier choices which includes alcohol and drug related subjects. More recently a second mobile unit was purchased to serve the eighty eight primary schools in North and West Kerry. Three people are employed, two educators and a project Manager.
There are many other innovative proposals which I have initiated but I would need a lot more space in which to write. If my experience in relation to what I have written above can be of value to you in your community I would be more than happy to share the experience with you in greater detail, just contact me by e-mail, phone or by letter.
It is my intention to contest the next local elections in Killarney town and Killarney area for Kerry County Council and I wish to thank all those who supported me in the past and trust that those who would like to see me elected in the future will contact me in due course
