Born and raised in Carrickerry, now living in Newcastle West and teaching in Desmond College, Newcastle West, I am married to Miriam with three children, Conor, Stephen and Eimear.

Throughout the last decade, Ireland had experienced an economic boom, but, many sections of our community have became marginalised by the rampant pursuit of profit. Now the country is in an economic recession, job losses and inept government planning have only exacerbated the problem. Strong leadership coupled with a sense of justice and equality is what our country needs, in my opinion.

At a local level in the West Limerick region, I believe that our elected politicians have not been pro-active enough in creating and protecting jobs. Our local infrastructure is in serious decline, damage caused by the flooding in August 2008 and local government spending cuts has left our roads in a poor state.

Our area has seen hundreds of new houses built recently. No thought has been given to providing the necessary infra-structure to improve the quality of life for people in our area. We need more investment in amenities and local community groups for the young, the elderly.I will work as a vocal Community activist , to improve health and social services, educational facilities and address problems such as crime and anti-social behaviour
I narrowly missed out in being elected to limeriick County Council last June. My aim over the next five years is to build a Strong local organisation in the area and to make the breakthrough in the Newcastle Electoral area.I believe that the role of a councillor is to defend the community interest and not just what officialdom believes the community needs. I’m proud to be part of a Labour team with Eamonn Gilmore, with a real vision for our country, locally and nationally. Now more than ever our community needs strong, imaginative leadership. With your support, I’m determined to build a local orgaisation the Newcastle Electoral area deserves.
