Cllr Tara O'Connell
Selected to succeed my late father Tommy on Youghal Town Council in October 2011, my interest in politics dates back to an early age when canvassing with my father when I was about eight. I joined Labour as the social policies suited my own ideas on social issues, equal rights and opportunities for all!
As a single mum of a teenager daughter, I believe that Youghal’s future and that of other small towns would be best served by self-sustainability, local groups and volunteers have a vital role to play in getting communities working together, encouraging tourism and promoting the assets their town has to offer. Groups like the Youghal Concerns Citizens set such a great example to us all. We have all got to work together to build a better future. I believe at this moment, tourism and heritage projects, along with promoting and assisting the establishment and development of small, individual businesses, offers our best options.
